Wellness
"Wellness is more than being free from illness, it is a dynamic process of change and growth. "...A state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being, and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity."

ACUPUNCTURE
What is Acupuncture?
Acupuncture originated in China over 3,000 years ago. Based on the ancient Chinese concept of Qi, vital life energy, it is believed that health is created by a balanced flow of Qi. Qi is circulated in the body along 14 energy pathways, called meridians, each linked to specific internal organs and organ systems. There are over four hundred acupuncture points within the meridian system that can be stimulated to enhance the flow of Qi.
How does Acupuncture Work?
Following diagnosis, thin, disposable needles are inserted into the body at specific acupoints along the acupuncture meridians to stimulate the body’s healing energy or Qi. The process of acupuncture revitalizes balance and health in the body.
Benefits of Acupuncture
Acupuncture is a natural anti-inflammatory that reduces pain, inflammation, stress, and aids blood circulation and healing. It can be integral too in the treatment of those struggling with fertility and many common pregnancy ailments.
The World Health Organization (WHO) of the United Nations has cited 104 different conditions that acupuncture can treat successfully; including, migraines, sinusitis, the common cold, tonsillitis, asthma, eye inflammation, addictions, myopia, duodenal ulcer (and other gastrointestinal disorders), trigeminal neuralgia, sciatica, migraine headache, Meniere's disease, tennis elbow, carpal tunnel, neuropathy, bell’s palsy, sprain or strains, paralysis from stroke, speech aphasia, sciatica, osteoarthritis, and more.
PELVIC FLOOR PHYSICAL THERAPY
Pelvic Floor Physical Therapy is a specialized type of therapy that addresses common conditions and symptoms when there is muscle weakness in the pelvic floor. A weakened pelvic floor could be muscles that are hypertonic, or can’t relax. This would be indicative of very specific treatment whereas kegels, or true pelvic floor exercises, would be contraindicated. The pelvic floor also could be weak with hypo-tenacity, where the musculature needs some strengthening. This lack of tone could be a signal that there is also a lack of energy or a stagnancy in this chakra. Our pelvic floor also could be weak with hypotenacity, where the musculature needs some strengthening. This lack of tone, could be a signal that there is also a lack of energy or a stagnancy in this chakra. This sacred part of our body, and yes men have pelvic floors too, is essential to our health and well-being, yet generally neglected in our overall healthcare. Our pelvic floor enables healthy and pleasurable sex, is a major factory in the quality of birthing and is the hammock of muscles that support our reproductive organs.
The ways in which these weaknesses may manifest physically include:
-
Constipation
-
Frequent Urination
-
Trouble controlling your bowels or urine, leading to leaks
-
Pain during sex in women
-
Erectile disorder in men
-
inorgasmia
-
Excessive sex drive
-
Compulsive behaviors
-
Difficulty controlling emotions
-
Tail Bone and Pubic Bone Pain (pubis symphysis dysfunction)
-
Fertility issues
-
Menstruation issues
We believe that especially as women, particularly pregnant people, making pelvic floor physical therapy an essential part of our sexual and reproductive healthcare would have such a significant, positive impact on women’s health and happiness. Our pelvic floor is our root chakra, which provides us with our sense of safety and security. When there is an imbalance physically it could be reflective of what’s happening in our lives.

What is a Sexuality Health Educator?A sexuality health educator is a professional educator that teaches about all aspects of sexuality including relationships, sexual identity, self-esteem, sexual and reproductive health, abstinence, contraception, and even about pleasure. When working with a Sexuality Educator, youth traditionally receive age-appropriate, factual information that is sex-positive, about everything ranging from puberty to risk reduction. School and community workshops and trainings are provided for youth, parents, and professionals. As for parents we teach about what to say and when to say it and encourage parents to clarify, communicate and model their values. Realistic strategies and helpful tools are taught and practiced that aim to help strengthen communication and deepen the connection between parents and their kids. Many Sexuality Educators also work on curriculum development and program design, assisting organizations or schools to become more comprehensive and culturally sensitive. This also includes training professionals who work with parents and youth to enable them to be their experts.

What is the difference between coaching, counseling, and therapy?"Coaching begins where therapy leaves off. The coach assumes that the client is well-functioning and is facing a roadblock or finding it difficult to get over the next mountain to greater fulfillment. People turn to coaches when their life is going well. Usually, they are high-functioning people who want to expand their lives, their businesses, and their general outlook. They tend to be successful people who have a vision that they could go beyond where they are, but feel that they would like someone to work with them to achieve their goals. These are the same people who would seek a coach to improve their golf or tennis game, seek consultation in their business, or utilize a financial planner to assist with their finances. Coaching focuses on the present and future and tends to be short-term. Counseling addresses specific issues and focuses on how you are managing the people, places and things in your life and in the “here and now.” Counseling helps individuals gain skills in how they interact with others, overcome crisis and manage stress. Marital and family problems, parenting, crisis, loss, difficult people, career challenges, and stress are some of the issues that can be addressed in order to gain insight, strengthen relationships and enhance your ability to cope with everyday happenings. Everyone can use someone to talk to help maintain balance in their life, so counseling can be long or short-term, depending on what your intention is. Therapy, on the other hand, addresses the internal world and how you function and relate to those around you. It is usually something that is needed when the issues you are dealing with interfere with your functioning of daily life. Emotional difficulties such as depression, anxiety, phobias, destructive behaviors, fears, compulsions, and addictions are issues needing a more long term in-depth therapy approach. Personality problems that can be treated in therapy include anger issues, paranoia, excessive blaming, possessiveness, jealousy, emotional apathy, relationship abuse, and other destructive behaviors. In addition, traumatic experiences, growing up in unhealthy environments, and abusive experiences all have a profound impact on emotional well-being and are often the focus of therapy. Therapy is focused on the individual, delves into the past and tends to be of longer duration than counseling or coaching.
REIKI
Reiki is a universal healing energy that brings the body, physically and energetically, back into balance enhancing our own natural way of healing. The ability to heal is as natural as the ability to breathe. It’s a gift that we as people have disconnected from. Reiki can restore us to our sense of oneness with all that exists in the world and to connect with the knowledge that all life is created from and nurtured by the same source. In Reiki, this source is Universal Healing Energy. In Japanese “Rei,” means universal, and “ki,” means life-force energy.Ki, (also know as Chi in Chinese and Prana in Sanskrit), means the nonphysical energy which creates and maintains balance in the body and mind. Reiki helps to release blockages of energy, aiding in the healing of past emotional pain. The receiver is not actually healed by the practitioner, but by the universal life energy itself and its balancing effects. Since energy is a natural life force energy, it can not harm anyone and is gentle yet powerful. By simply placing the hands on or above various positions on the head and body, for several minutes each, the energy flows through the body restoring it to health.
TT SOMATIC THERAPY
Transformative Touch (TT) is a Somatic Healing Modality using gentle touch and talk in order to create deeper personal awareness and discover the wisdom and messages of one’s own body, reduce stress and strain, connect to self; mind-body-heart-soul, and to be able to move forward in one’s life with greater ease and freedom.
Practition Cindy Brahms uses her hands, heart, and ears, to offer a safe place to arrive, in calm surroundings as you slowly work together; to hear the messages of one’s body, so that body, mind, and spirit can be aligned, in order to step forward in one’s life more confidently and integrated.
VIBRATIONAL SOUND THERAPY
What is Vibrational Sound Therapy?
Vibrational Sound Therapy (VST) uses Himalayan singing bowls, handcrafted specifically for this relaxation modality. These beautifully handcrafted bowls are placed on the body and activated with the measured strike method. The gentle sounds and vibration of these bowls help induce a meditative and/or relaxed state.
“Clients often report a feeling of mental freshness that they carry with them after the session is over. Relaxation and meditative states of mind have also been shown to increase the threshold for emotional response, meaning they can help us control our emotional responses to outside influences. Like other kinds of meditation, sound therapy can help us be more internally aware while being more present in the moment and more connected with our surroundings.”-VSA website
VST is used for the following:
